Prague Information Service

The organization of the capital of Prague, was founded on 1st January 1958 as an independent cultural information establishment. Nevertheless, a number of its workplaces have much longer history. In 1958, their activities were renewed and they were amalgamated to a new organization under the new name.

For example the section of information and documentation followed up with the Central Information Service conceived in 1947 pursuant to the model of the French service S´il vous plaît, the newspaper clipping service continued in the activity of the bureau Argus operating in Prague from 1929 and liquidated for political reasons in 1948, local history section has its predecessor in the pre-war Association for Enhancement of Prague Monuments. salesrooms and newsstands as well as our internet pages.

In cooperation with Prague Municipal Council, they participate in publishing tourist brochures, which are destined for visitors of our city, for tour operators as well as for promotion of Prague in important tourist fairs and other presentation events all over the world.

They manage and make accessible monuments in possession of the city; they organize there interesting exhibitions and provide expert lectures. It applies for the following monuments - Old Town Hall, Powder Tower, Old Town Bridge Tower, Lesser Town Bridge Towers, Tower of St Nicolas Church, Petrín View Tower, Maze and Ctenice Castle with Carriage Hall.

Prague Information Service is an active member of the following national and international organizations and associations: PCB - Prague Convention Bureau, A.T.I.C. - Association of Tourist Information Centres, ECM - European Cities Marketing and CEE - Central European Experience.
